Our production cooperative was founded in 1945, but its origins date back to 1919.

We are one of the traditional plastic processors in the Czech Republic

Our production cooperative was established in 1945, but the beginnings of our history date back to 1919. At the beginning, writing utensils and smoking accessories were produced. Over time, our company’s activities focused on plastic processing. Currently we are full-service plastic injection molding facility and in addition to that we process plastic sheets. Besides custom manufacturing we also sell our own products. In 2002, we have successfully implemented quality management system ISO 9001, which is regularly recertified according to the current standards.

Our company employs around 120 people. Production is realized in two manufacturing facilities, in Pardubice and in Dolní Roveň.

At the plant in Pardubice, we process thermoplastics using injection molding technology. In addition to the injection molding shop with 26 injection molding machines with clamping force range between 500 and 3,200 kN, we operate our own tool shop, which not only builds new tools and molds according to customer requirements, but also ensures operation of injection molding shop by maintenance and repairs of molds and tools for mass production. We also offer printing of plastic parts and products, as well as completion, assembly and packaging. We mainly specialize in the manufacturing of household and kitchen utensils, cosmetic jars, various types of closures and technical plastic parts e.g. for watch industry.

Plant Dolní Roveň

At the plant in Dolní Roveň, we have technologies to process sheet materials. We offer formatting and shape cutting of sheet materials, vacuum forming of technical parts, bending and gluing of plastics, completion and packaging. On the CNC router, we process not only plastics, but also wood or aluminum composite panels with the thickness of 3 mm to 25 mm. We focus on POS materials production, but we also produce other parts according to customer requirements and drawings.

2019

As part of the project “Replacement of Plastic Processing Machines to Reduce Energy Consumption”, co-financed by the European Union, old injection molding machines were replaced with new ones.

2017

In August 2017, a 3-axis CNC router was purchased for the facility in Dolní Roveň, significantly expanding our technological capabilities. The machine enables milling, cutting, and engraving not only plastics but also other sheet materials with a maximum thickness of 25 mm.

Production of lunch boxes with IML

2016

In 2016, the first robotic workstation for product decoration using IML (in-mold labeling) technology was established in the plastics molding plant. A new semi-automatic machine for decorating cosmetic jar lids with hot foil was also purchased for the printing workshop. A new warehouse for materials and finished products was built at the Dolní Roveň facility.

2004

TVAR received its first award in the prestigious competition “Czech 100 Best” in the Manufacturing Cooperatives category. This success was repeated in 2009, 2011, 2014, and 2019.

In 2002, the cooperative successfully implemented a quality management system according to ČSN EN ISO 9001, which is regularly recertified in line with current standards.

Cosmetic jars

1991

In 1991, the cooperative introduced its first packaging products for the cosmetics industry—specifically double-wall cosmetic jars. These gained strong recognition not only among Czech cosmetics manufacturers, and their range continues to expand in both models and sizes.

1990

Since 1990, the cooperative has collaborated with Swiss companies in the watchmaking industry, for which it produces special types of boxes and other packaging for watches and watch movements.

1989

After 1989, a number of significant changes took place in the cooperative’s business activities. Most previously provided services were removed from the company register, and properties used for these services were returned through restitution.

1975

On October 22, 1975, an injection molding machine from the national enterprise TOS Rakovník (CS 371/160) was put into operation at the new plant, and the first tool was installed. At 11:55 a.m., the first product—a decorative flowerpot cover—was molded. On November 3, 1975, production began on multiple machines. The fully equipped new plant was officially opened on December 12, 1975. The production program focused mainly on household products.

1970

In 1970, the cooperative’s board made an important decision. In rented premises from the national enterprise VCHZ Semtín in Rybitví, an apprenticeship training center for plastic processing was established. Each year typically had one class of about 20 apprentices. The training center was closed in 1980.

1966

In 1966, another merger took place—this time with the TVAR Pardubice cooperative, which primarily provided services. Production activities were limited, focusing on vacuum forming of plastics and small-scale metalwork. The merged cooperative adopted the name TVAR, which best reflected its activities.

Construction of the new plant (summer 1974)

1965

Due to a lack of space in existing facilities and poor social conditions, the idea of building a new plant emerged in 1965. Construction was carried out by the cooperative itself, with employees contributing a large number of volunteer hours.

Historical production in Dolní Roveň

1961

On July 1, 1961, a merger took place with the NOVOCHEMA Dolní Roveň cooperative, which produced coatings. The merged cooperative adopted the name JAS and focused its production on plastic processing. Polyester fiberglass laminates and protective helmets for motorcyclists and athletes under the brand name Cassida began to be produced in Dolní Roveň.

1960

The entire production program of fountain pens, including buildings and machinery, was transferred to the national enterprise Koh-i-noor. The cooperative moved from its original location on Pražská Street to Na Vrtálně 84, and from then on focused on plastic processing.

1945

In the post-war enthusiasm, the idea of establishing a cooperative composed of company employees emerged. On October 17, 1945, the founding meeting took place, and the newly formed cooperative adopted the name PENCO. The cooperative purchased factory buildings from the heirs of J. Brod and restored the original production program—fountain pens, mechanical pencils, and smoking accessories.

1939

The promising business of Jindřich Brod was halted by World War II. In 1939, the company J. Brod & Co. was Aryanized. Jindřich Brod was forced to leave Pardubice and was later interned in the Mauthausen concentration camp. In 1940, Alfred Gerlach, a fountain pen manufacturer from Leipzig, took over the factory and began producing his own designs under the name IMPERIAL. Most production was exported to Germany and German-occupied countries.

1929

In 1929, production began of fountain pens, mechanical pencils, pen holders, dice, chess sets, dominoes, letter openers, and inkwells. Production was strongly export-oriented, with a global dealer network. Brod’s luxury fountain pens, sold under the Ibros brand, were able to compete successfully thanks to their high quality.

1919

The origins of the present-day manufacturing cooperative TVAR date back to 1919, when Jindřich Brod and Otto Pick rented a workshop in Pardubice (U Kostelíčka) and founded the company J. Brod & Co. The company produced smoking accessories and other luxury items made from ebonite, galalith, juvelite, horn, and exotic wood. Most of the production was intended for export.
